From removal, to degreasing and grime removal, to the current use of phosphoric acid to remove the rust and etch the metal for paint. This should be ready and done by the end of the weekend!
Also a new silicone line to replace the torn and worn rubber original

For your porch?

I did do a lot of this work on my front porch. But yes for my 924.

I have the same color hoses in my MR2! Will take an engine bay pic next time I’m with the car.

I’m replacing the old and worn hoses with blue ones to better identify and remember what I replace.

Any reason you didn’t wire brush or media blast the crossmember? Seems like it would have been quicker or easier. I remember sandblasting the entire chassis of my CJ during the restoration, and can’t imagine how long it would have taken to chemically perform the same work.

Phosphoric acid will clean up rusted metal by just sitting on it overnight. Wipe it on and forget about it. Unlike blasting or brushing it, it rust proofs the rusty spots at the same time.
I’ve used it on the axle of my Jeep and old motrcycles quite a bit.

I love phosphoric acid for cleaning up rusty metal.

The euro shop I frequent most has a media blaster; problem was that I couldn’t remember the di mensions of it and wasn’t sure this would fit. Didn’t wanna take my chances driving there for nothing so this was more convenient.

I’d completely forgotten about how good it was until last night! It’s amazing stuff! Just watching it work is amazing.

I had to tear it on one end just to get it free in the first place.

Yeah, it’s cheap too. The acid converts iron oxide to ferric phosphate, which is basically a rust proof shell. Here’s a before and after of my axle. I just wiped it on with a rag while changing the oil.

I wonder if a spritz/mist bottle would work. This is good info - thanks!

It would as it is pretty watery. I was worried about getting it on bushings, so I just wiped it on where I wanted it.

Nice work, fresh clean parts are very satisfying (especially in the case of that crusty rubber elbow!)

That’s how I’m doing it at home! More controlled and less wasteful. If you need to apply more its always there. I bought the gallon of it for $15 from Home Depot! I’m using it like a degreaser: spray on , brush to agitate, then rinse off!
Definitely wear gloves, and keep off paint.
